Revitalized Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.

The win also means he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, took control to create a decider.

He rescued 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
